Look the Part: Try Be-WITCH-ing!
Tue Nov 08 2011, 12:45 AMHalloween’s around the corner, and for sure a lot of your friends would come dressed in scary, sci-fi garb. Why not come as a witch – yet a fashionably chic one at that? Dressing dark doesn’t mean being in the dark about trends – let us clue you in on how to use this season’s hits to look the part of a spellbinding witch!
HAIR

Vera Wang, Proenza Schouler, Peter Som, from Style.com and Harpersbazaar.com
- Unkempt hair is in - it’s a kind of hag’s hairdo, only much more hipster (and cleaner).
- Tip: tie your hair into a neat knot, then pull the rubber down and tease. Set generously with hairspray.
- Insert a feather or two, for instant drama (and just in case you need to cast instant spells that require feathers).
MAKE UP

Jil Sander, Vera Wang, Roberto Cavalli, Salvatore Ferragamo, from Style.com and Harpersbazaar.com
-
Fall’s somber palettes go very well with witch sensibilities. It’s all about having a blood red lip against clean bare skin for a creepy-cool contrast.
-
Warts and grime are be-gone from the face, except for smudges in the general eye area. Swap the usual black powder with deep shades like plum or brown.
-
Tip: try a flick of eyeliner on your eye’s outer corners to “feminize” the effect.
-
If you want the white witch look, try a tinge of white glitter on the inner corners for an ethereal (but still sinister) effect.

After a whole summer of florals and bright color blocking, dark, shapeless things dominate fall runways.
-
Look for inspiration in ponchos (don’t they resemble witch capes very much?) which also effectively keep the rain out
-
Skirts are witch-friendly in leather and mid-length.
